SecurityIng XM-L2 Torch
Rating 5/5
The SecurityIng Pocket Flashlight is a great torch that absolutely surpassed all my expectations.
Build Quality
Both the body and the head of the flashlight are made out of aluminum, which has been anodized foradded resistance to scratches. The anodization process leaves behind a matte black color and a very smooth finish.
The body as well as the tailcap of the light is textured with a diamond cut pattern which increases the grip.A crown is also present on the head of the light, which gives is a nice tactical look and can be useful in self-defense scenarios.
The included clip is very strong and can easily secure the light on the inside of your pocket.
Last but not least, due to the switch guard the light can tail stand, which is a definite advantage.
Features
The flashlight can run either on a 18650 or 2 x CR123A. As a flashlight collector, I would definitely recommend the use of a quality brand 18650. Li-Ion cells are potentially dangerous if mistreated, so going we a brand named 18650 should drastically decrease the potential danger. An XM-L2 LED is used in this particular model, which is a relatively standard emitter with great luminus flux and efficiency.
The flashlight has 4 different modes (Moonlight-Low-Medium-High) which can be cycled through with a half-press while the light is on.
In addition, there is a memory function built in. If the light stays in the same mode for more than 2 seconds, it will start in the same mode the next time it is turned on.
Lastly, there is hidden strobe mode which can be accessed but two fast half-presses.
Output and Runtime Measurements
All my tests were conducted using a NCR18650B cell rated at 3400mAh. In order to obtain correct power-draw figures, a multi meter with short, low gauge leads were used.Mode Current-Draw(A) Runtime(h) Output(Lumen)
Moonlight 0.01 340 1
Low 0.07 48.5 19
Med 0.65 5.2 300
High 2.93 1.2 1030
Mote that the lumen output and the runtime is an estimation I have made using the respective data sheet of the LED used.
